A longlasting period of fasting, like the Ramadan or a detox, shakes up your natural rhythm. That's because during this period, our digestive system and intestines adopt a different way of functioning. After quitting food cold turkey, it is essential to make sure the transistion between fasting and eating runs smoothly and your body doesn't suffer. That's why below, we've listed some tips on how to make the right choices and enjoy the benefits of fasting to the max.

Plan the end of your fasting period beforehand

In order to make the transistion between fasting and eating as smoothly as possible, we recommend you to be well organized and avoid stress. In that way, you'll also make sure the positive effects of the fasting period last. The goal is to gradually boost the parasympathetic nervous system that regulates the activities of the digestive tract to avoid discomfort. We therefore advise you to plan the end of your fasting period in advance. This will allow you to plan your meals and have the right ingredients at hand. In that way, you will not throw yourself on a diet that is too fat, rich and excessive. Preparation is key.

Support your digestive system

During the fasting period, your stomach and digestive system are at rest and your intestines are empty. It really is a cleanse. Therefore, it is essential to avoid an aggressive switch between fasting and eating. You can do that by favouring more digestible foods and moderate quantities. It is also very important to chew well so that the saliva does its full preparatory work and helps the digestive system in its digesting process.
Besides that, take the time you need and don't force your body to go too fast. Even though opinions are divided, it is generally accepted that the switch between fasting and eating takes at least half the time of the fasting period. It could even last as long as the fasting period. Also take into account that everybody's health condition is different It is therefore important to pay attention to your own possible challenges. For example, if you have a weak liver or kidney, it is necessary to make sure that these organs recover well after the fasting period. Do not hesitate to consult your doctor in case of doubts or concerns.

Choose the right nutrition

It is recommended to start by reintroducing liquid foods, like vegetable juices or soups, before eating solid foods again. Fresh, highly diluted raw vegetable juices are particularly recommended. Nettle juice and wheat shoot juice, which are very rich in microelements and multi-vitamins, are also suggested. These will reboot your internal system. Herbs can also stimulate your natural system. We therefore recommend chewing sprouted wheat seeds, parsley, fennel, fresh thyme, basil or chives. After that, you can gradually reintroduce grains, plant proteins and animal proteins. Ideally, each new type of food is introduced during one meal of the day. Finally, you can start consuming foods such as coffee, tea, salt, red meat, wine, pastries, etc. again. Do so in moderation.

If you take on the switch between fasting and eating in a gradual and organized way while supporting your internal system, you will be able to resume your regular diet with peace of mind!
